InsOnBrdCalc calculates the insulin on board (IOB), taking into consideration Correction & Meal/Carbohydrate Boluses and Basal rates. It is based on inputs such as insulin action duration, a correction bolus (and how long ago it was delivered), a meal/carbohydrate bolus (and how long ago it was delivered) and a basal rate (average over the time of insulin acting duration input).
Use this calculator only on advice from your physician. Your physician will provide you with sample inputs and verify the result. This method for calculating insulin on board (IOB) is not suitable for everyone.
Insulin Acting Duration - Your insulin acting duration. Typical value is 4 hours. The valid range is 0 to 9 and the default value is 4 hours.
Correction Bolus - It is a bolus that was NOT taken to compensate a meal or carbohydrate intake. The valid range is 0 to 20 and the default is 0 units.
How long ago that this Bolus was taken – Enter how many hours ago the bolus was taken. The valid range is 0 to 9 and the default value is 2 hours.
Meal/Carbohydrate Bolus - It is a bolus that WAS taken to compensate a meal or carbohydrate intake. The valid range is 0 to 20 and the default is 0 units. NOTE: SOME FORMULAS DO NOT TAKE THIS TYPE OF INSULIN DELIVERY INTO CONSIDERATION. IF SO DESIRED, ENTER 0 (zero) AS A VALUE.
Basal Rate Average - It is the average basal rate you used during the last few hours (your insulin acting duration time). The valid range is 0 to 20 and the default is 0 units. NOTE: SOME FORMULAS DO NOT TAKE THIS TYPE OF INSULIN DELIVERY INTO CONSIDERATION. IF SO DESIRED, ENTER 0 (zero) AS A VALUE.
Insulin On Board (IOB) - It is the calculated value with the above input values. The insulin deliveries used portion is subtracted from the total, over your insulin acting time. Adjust it according to your body and physician recommendation before making decisions based on this estimated value.
